Best Ski Resort Awards 2023

Are our guests “happy”?

Which top ski resorts in the Alpine region achieve the highest guest satisfaction scores?

Already for the 6th time (after 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020) the presentation of the results of the largest and most meaningful study in the Alpine region – Best Ski Resort – took place this time in Serfaus and Fiss (Tyrol).

In the winter of 2022/23, over 49,200 guests were surveyed – directly in the mountain restaurants – using the random method (accompanied self-completion). 17 interviewers were on the spot in 54 selected top ski resorts in Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France for a total of 271 days!

Overall satisfaction slightly lower

In the results, it is noticeable that the overall satisfaction, unfortunately, after an upward trend since 2012 to 2018, moves downward from 2020 and now also 2023! From 8.01 in 2018 to now 7.86 (scale 1 to 10).

Presumably, the falling satisfaction values in the price-performance ratio are a motivating factor. This concerns the lift ticket prices as well as those of the accommodation/hotels and also the prices of the gastronomy.

Friendliness in the ski area takes a higher priority

It should be mentioned positively that friendliness not only currently appears in 4th place in terms of importance (behind ski area size, guaranteed snow and piste preparation), but that satisfaction in terms of friendliness has also been rated at 8.18 (on a scale of 1 to 10), the same as that of comfort and convenience of mountain cableways/lifts. A higher value in the 6 most important criteria is achieved only by the ski area size with 8.28!

Mike Partel, author of the study

In a country comparison, Italian ski resorts lead with an overall satisfaction score of 8.08, ahead of those in Switzerland with 7.87, closely followed by Austria with 7.84 and France with 7.66.
